Approximately two month ago, the Mayor and Department of Economic Development Team, met with Alex Simic, Chief Executive Officer of Storage Master regarding his proposal to turn the long vacant and blighted former tannery into a viable use within our community. Site plans along the conditional use application were submitted by Alex and his team of architects from Thrive Architects to the City’s Plan Commission.
The site plans take into account the re-utilization of a very challenging site with multiple buildings, and previous environmental concerns. Both the conditional use and site plans were approved by the Plan Commission.
“I am extremely happy that this proposal from Storage Master has come forward to the city,” stated Mayor John Hohenfeldt. “This site has been an underutilized and blighted property for over 10 years. Within a year, we will see a new vibrant use of the site”.
Storage Master, one of the three largest self-storage operations in the State of Wisconsin, plan to develop a “best in class” storage facility with more than 600 units on the site. They also offer additional services such as free truck rental with move-ins and other extremely competitive services.
With a tentative sale and closing on the property set for July or August of this year, completion and opening of the project will take approximately one year to complete the renovations.
